The Free Marches, in the opinion of Saarebas, were terrible.

He supposed if he was asked for the reasons he thought that the Free Marches were terrible - which he doubted any would want to know - he would first start with their largest cities. Starkhaven, the most powerful of the cities in the Free Marches, was a pretentious and greedy city with vast estates filled with bleating nobles and fat merchants, marble fountains wasting precious fresh water with displays of decadent celebrations of the ousting of some royal family, replacing them with a new breed of tyrant.

Kirkwall, which he had not visited because of the presence of the Qunari, was well known as a hotbed of strife, politically, physically, and spiritually. A so called Circle of Magi existed there, and yet forbidden blood magic found a firm foothold there, and the Templars - the Basvaraad - were apparently too incompetent or corrupted to root them out. He'd even heard that they ran the city, something that deeply disturbed Saarebas. Apparently, there were even rumors that the Veil there is thin, and Demons can possess even non-saarebas thanks to the weakness of reality and the Veil there.

Saarebas wasn't even going to begin to describe Tantervale.

The second reason that he would list is the lack of unity. Saarebas saw only bickering nation-states who refused to submit to the wisest and the strongest out of sheer pride and greed. It disgusted him to no end, and he longed for a place where order could be established.

Thirdly, there was the fact Saarebas was a very bitter person at the time being. His karataam was slain, and he could not return to the Qun without death awaiting him. Frankly, he did not want to die, and living by the Qun meant that he would die. And so he fled, abandoning his duty and his place in society. He'd ran for weeks upon weeks from the Imperium, past Nevarra, and into the Free Marches. He had collapsed outside of a frontier town, and now he wandered.

The forest he was walking in was vibrant, the summer air blowing through the leaves and filling his nostrils with the scent of distant crops and flowers. It reminded him of home, and when he remembered the few times he was let out of his cage for discipline and exercise drills, the warm sun on his skin, the sounds of Qunlat on the wind, his normally stony expression softened a bit in nostalgia.

It was such he did not hear the grunting and growling a few meters to his left.

Quite suddenly the distant scents of crops and flowers was replaced by burning flesh and bestial scream rang through the forest. The obvious question of, 'what the hell was that?' was answered as flailing burning hurlock was sent spinning into the clearing.

The apparent battle moved into view, perhaps twenty hurlocks and genlocks were being attacked by a seven foot warrior wielding an axe bigger than he was, and one diminutive elf calling down fire and lightning. Somehow they were winning with apparent ease, it was only made more obvious when one of the darkspawn exploded with enough force to send three of its comrades toppling to the ground, shredded by shards of bone and armor.

To say that Saarebas was surprised by the sudden Darkspawn thrown in front of him from the forest would be an understatement. The smell of burnt, corrupt flesh filled his nostrils and he scrunched his nose in disgust. A growling sound came from the forest as a hurlock came screaming out of the forest, it's scimitar raised in the air as it flailed about in it's death throes.

The Kossith's hands moved as, suddenly, the Darkspawn was frozen in place with a cone of cold, snow and frost bursting forth from his hands and turning the abomination into a frozen monument. With a firm punch, the thing shattered into pieces.

He ran through the forest, his mask shielding his face and eyes from the branches of trees. His bulky form pushed through the brush. What he saw was... two versus twenty, and it seemed that the two were actually winning.

Still, it didn't mean he could not help.

The Saarebas' fingers crackled with electricity, static forming around him as he drew upon his magic. And from his fingertips, a chain of lightning strikes came, hitting a genlock and frying it from the inside, passing to a hurlock and exiting out of it's skull, jumping to a Darkspawn emissary and causing it to go into a seizure, and ending by striking into one of their shield bearing troops.
